Balanced Living Occupational Therapy is a growing private practice dedicated to delivering compassionate, individualized, and high-quality care to our clients in their homes and communities. We specialize in client-centered, cash-based services that prioritize dignity, independence, and meaningful outcomes.
We are seeking an exceptional Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our practice as an Independent Contractor. This is a flexible, per-client opportunity for a clinician who truly values quality over quantity and is committed to delivering thorough, unrushed, and personalized care.

Position Details
Role: Occupational Therapist
Type: Independent Contractor
Schedule: Flexible — evening and weekend availability preferred; cases assigned on a per-client basis (1–2 clients/month to start)
Location: Albany, NY and surrounding areas in the Capital Region (in-home and community-based care)
Start Date: Week of September 15th
Compensation: $40/hr - $70/hr
Provide individualized occupational therapy evaluations and interventions in alignment with Balanced Living’s high standards of care.
Travel to specific client locations.
Follow all safety policies and procedures.
Develop personalized therapy plans within occupational therapy scope of practice.
Deliver therapeutic interventions tailored to the client’s goals.
Track and document client progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
Recommend changes to the home (ramps, grab bars, rearranged furniture) to improve safety and accessibility.
Maintain accurate records of sessions, progress notes, and billing information.
Manage appointments and travel logistics independently.
Handle inquiries, follow-ups, and care coordination directly with clients or their families.
Deliver client-centered, unrushed sessions that prioritize functional outcomes, independence, and overall quality of life.
Collaborate with clients and families to establish and achieve meaningful goals.
Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation in the provided EMR system.
Communicate with clients using HIPAA-compliant tools (Spruce business line, Balanced Living email, secure documentation platforms).
Participate in orientation and maintain alignment with Balanced Living’s values, mission, and practice policies.
Responsibilities
Current Occupational Therapy license in good standing with the New York State Education Department.
Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Active professional and practice liability insurance (maintained independently).
Reliable vehicle with valid insurance for in-home and community-based therapy visits.
Consistent access to Wi-Fi and a personal device (phone, laptop, or tablet) for documentation and communication.
Demonstrated commitment to exceptional client service, compassion, professionalism, and respect.
Strong ability to work with patience, empathy, and attention to detail.
Willingness to travel to multiple client locations as needed.
Valid driver’s license with active personal insurance coverage.
Independent liability insurance (or willingness to obtain).
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Highly reliable, punctual, and organized.
Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
Dedication to providing thorough, unrushed sessions with genuine focus on client care.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate documentation.
Comfortable working independently while remaining part of a collaborative, client-centered practice.
