Why I Chose A Career In OT: An Introduction to Caterina’s Story

When I was young, I dreamed of becoming someone who could make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it. I had a purpose, I had drive, and all I needed to figure out was how I could put my natural skills to work in a career that fulfilled me. OT was the answer - I just didn’t know it yet.

My passion became more and more clear when my grandmother began receiving therapy. Watching her work toward regaining her strength and independence opened my eyes to the profound impact rehabilitation professionals can have on an individual’s quality of life. Her genuine well-being improved before our eyes and I knew I wanted a part in doing the same for others.

From this experience, I witnessed firsthand how personalized care, encouragement, and therapeutic intervention could restore not only physical function but also hope and confidence. That experience inspired me to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy where I could build meaningful relationships with individuals while empowering them to overcome challenges and achieve their personal goals.

As I continued my education and gained overall clinical experience, I found myself especially drawn to occupational therapy because of its holistic, individualized approach. Every person has a unique story, different priorities, and meaningful activities that give their life purpose. Occupational therapy allows me to partner with each client to understand those goals and develop personalized treatment plans that focus on what matters most to them.

At Balanced Living, I am excited to bring that same passion for individualized, client-centered care to every person I have the privilege of working with. I believe that successful therapy goes beyond improving physical abilities. It’s about helping individuals regain independence, rebuild confidence, and return to the activities that bring meaning and fulfillment to their daily lives.

Whether a client is recovering from an injury, adapting to a new diagnosis, or working toward greater independence, my goal is to create a supportive, collaborative environment where they feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their rehabilitation journey. By tailoring treatment to everyone's needs, strengths, and personal goals, I strive to help clients maximize their potential and achieve the highest level of independence possible.

Occupational therapy is more than my profession, it is my passion. I am honored to be part of the Balanced Living team, where I can continue serving others with compassion, evidence-based care, and a commitment to helping every client live a more balanced, independent, and meaningful life.
